Meta is introducing a rather interesting and equally annoying feature. Instagram has started testing a new feature called “Ad Breaks,” which are ads that appear suddenly while users are scrolling through their feeds and cannot be skipped for at least 3-5 seconds. Here are the details of this feature that disrupts our Instagram enjoyment…
The new Instagram feature drives users crazy; Ad Breaks ruin the browsing experience
Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, has always relied on ads to stay afloat. Now, Instagram’s new Ad Breaks feature interrupts your browsing experience, forcing you to watch mandatory ads.
Recently, Instagram has been struggling to make money due to privacy rules and the rise of TikTok. Therefore, it is trying different ways to generate revenue, even at the expense of annoying users, such as in-app purchases, subscriptions, and now unskippable ad breaks.
Despite numerous complaints, Meta has not made any official statement about this new feature. This situation has understandably infuriated users. Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) are flooded with complaints and outcries from users about this. Here are a few examples:
One Reddit user exclaimed, “I’ve been going crazy for two days because this is happening to me right now… and goodbye Instagram. I don’t need this.” Another user described this feature as a “terrible business decision” that could alienate users. A Twitter user said, “I’m switching to TikTok because of these ad breaks.”
Currently, the Ad Breaks feature is being tested on a small group of users. Meta is conducting this test to gauge user reactions and see if it increases ad revenue. So, what will be the outcome of this test?
Will users actually leave Instagram, or will they get used to this new feature? We will see. What do you think? Do you find Instagram’s new feature too annoying, or will we get used to it over time? Share your thoughts with us and let’s discuss what you think about this.
